Privacy Policy — Lacquer

Lacquer (“the app”, “we”) is a local-first music player. Your music and your personal data stay on your device — we have no backend and no account system. The one exception is advertising: the free version shows ads through Google AdMob, which collects limited data as described below. Lacquer Pro removes all ads.

Summary

We do not run our own servers and have no account system. Your music files, library, playlists, and settings are stored only on your device.
The free version shows ads via Google AdMob, a third-party SDK that may collect device and advertising identifiers to serve and measure ads.
We do not sell your data. Upgrading to Lacquer Pro removes all advertising.

Data the app accesses (on-device only)

Music library access (Apple Music / Media Library): Used solely to list and play DRM-free tracks you already own. Lacquer skips and never plays DRM-protected tracks. This access stays on your device; nothing is uploaded.
Files you import: Audio files you choose are copied into the app’s private storage so they keep playing offline. They remain on your device and are removed when you delete them in the app.
Playback & app settings (equalizer, crossfade, language, theme): Stored locally using the system’s standard preferences. Not transmitted.

Advertising (free version)

Lacquer uses Google AdMob to display banner and interstitial ads to users on the free tier.
AdMob and Google may collect and process limited data to serve and measure ads, including: an advertising identifier (IDFA), device information, IP address, and ad-interaction / usage data.
On first launch the app shows Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt. If you do not allow tracking, ads become non-personalized and your advertising identifier is not used for cross-app tracking.
Google’s handling of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy and “How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services”.
Lacquer Pro (in-app purchase) removes all ads and the related ad data collection.

Purchases

In-app purchases (Lacquer Pro) are processed by Apple. We never see or store your payment information. Purchase validation uses Apple’s StoreKit on your device. Apple’s handling of this data is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.

Data we do NOT collect

No account, email, name, or contacts.
No location data.
No analytics of your music, library, or listening history.
We do not store any of the above on our own servers — we have none.

Your choices

Decline the ATT prompt (or turn off “Allow Apps to Request to Track” in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking) to keep ads non-personalized.
Buy Lacquer Pro to remove ads entirely.

Children

Lacquer is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any data from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new “Last updated” date.
